H2M President and CEO Rich Humann, P.E. recently moderated a panel at HIA-LI‘s 36th Annual Trade Show and Conference. The panel, entitled “From Retail to Revitalization,” showcased the groundbreaking transformation of the former Sears space at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, NY, into the Stony Brook Advanced Specialty Care facility.
Steel Equities Senior Vice President of Development and Construction Kevin Lumpe; Combined Resources Consulting & Design, Inc. Project Manager and Architect Alex Peto; H2M Assistant Vice President and Electrical Department Manager Anthony Kim, P.E.; and H2M Senior Wastewater Project Engineer James Vierling, P.E. delivered important information on adaptive reuse strategies and how this method has set a new standard in commercial real estate.
This 170,000-square-foot project balances cost and efficiency by repurposing the electrical service and adding new mechanical and plumbing infrastructure to support the repurposed building. H2M’s MEP and Wastewater team addressed the requirements of Stony Brook Medicine through detailed planning and the application of innovative solutions. This facility offers a comprehensive range of healthcare services in a convenient location, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable future for the community.
