James Baird State Park Clubhouse and Park Manager’s Residence
Energy Efficiency Improvements
Pleasant Valley, NY
As part of an on-call contract with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, H2M provided project management for an effort to improve the energy efficiency of the clubhouse and park manager’s residence at James Baird State Park in Pleasant Valley, NY. In 1939, James Baird, a contractor and engineer whose firm constructed the Lincoln Memorial, donated 590 acres of farmland to New York State to form the park. The well-preserved mid-1940’s clubhouse is approximately 10,000 gross square feet and serves an 18-hole golf course.
We worked with a historical preservation subconsultant to identify shortcomings in the thermal envelopes of the structures and prepare a report recommending cost-saving measures such as weatherstripping, storm sashes, and targeted insulation enhancement. From there, we oversaw cost estimation for the recommended improvements and prepared a hazardous material survey and report. We are currently in collaboration with the preservation specialists, supporting and overseeing the design of the architectural improvements.
