Halfmoon-Waterford Fire District No. 1

Halfmoon-Waterford Fire District No. 1

New Fire Station

Waterford, NY

With a growing rural and suburban population, the Halfmoon-Waterford Fire District needed to replace their primary fire and medical response facility. With the Fire Company’s collaboration, H2M provided the District with a state-of-the-art station at the same central location to avoid excessively burdening local taxpayers.

The split-level, 25,450-square-foot building with five drive-through bays features a control point entrance that doubles as a museum for historic equipment. During construction, a glue-laminated structure temporarily housed the station on the same site and now serves as an all-season, shared-use pavilion that encourages community engagement. The new station’s generator provides standby emergency power. Sustainable and healthy features include local masonry, high-efficiency boilers for in-floor radiant heating in the bays, above-code insulation, a direct-source capture vehicle exhaust removal system in the bays, a turnout gear room with its own air filtration system, and transition zones between the “dirty” and “clean” areas of the building.
