Hagerman Fire District
9/11 Memorial
Hagerman, New York
In memory of Lieutenant Andrew Desperito of FDNY Engine Company 1 and all others who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, the Hagerman Fire District commissioned a memorial that features steel salvaged from the World Trade Center. The fourteen-foot, seven-ton piece of steel sits atop a masonry water feature that doubles as a reflecting pool. The water has the additional benefit of creating peaceful, background noise.
Decorative pavers surround the monument, forming a Maltese Cross and the Department’s patch. A 30-foot flagpole and landscaping complete the memorial. The memorial is open to the public to pay respects, reflect, and remember all those that lost their lives.
