Five Points Correctional Facility
Water Tower Rehabilitation
Napanoch, NY
The Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus, NY, is home to a pedesphere tank which can hold up to 750,000 gallons of water. In the time since the tank’s construction in 2000, its coatings were reaching the end of their useful life and required replacement.
We performed a present condition evaluation and recommended that the coatings on the tank exterior and interior water cavity required full removal and replacement while the interior dry portions of the tank only required spot repairs.
In order to account for the tank being offline for an extended period of time, we had to coordinate with the Seneca County Water Department (SCWD), which provided potable water to the Five Points Correctional Facility. Our team designed a temporary bypass with pressure relief system and helped the SCWD make necessary operational changes to the nearby pump station that feeds the facility.
The height of the tank placed it in the regulatory jurisdiction of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), so H2M also had to coordinate with the FAA by installing temporary aircraft warning lighting on top of the tank’s containment system for the duration of the work.
