Environmental Surveys and Facility Assessment
Elmont, NY
New York Racing Association (NYRA) tracks are the cornerstone of the State’s horse racing business, contributing more than $2 billion annually to New York State’s urban, suburban and rural economy and generating over 17,000 full-time jobs.
As part of a $1.3 billion redevelopment at Belmont Park—home of the famous Belmont Stakes races—the existing racetrack building is being demolished and replaced. NYRA brought in our team to perform asbestos, lead, and hazardous waste surveys and prepare a comprehensive facility assessment on the old building.
Upon completion of the assessment report, H2M provided asbestos abatement drawings and hazardous material remediation specifications for presentation to bidders. H2M worked in conjunction with NYRA to solicit bids, perform bid walkthroughs, and assist in contractor selection for the asbestos abatement project.
Asbestos abatement took approximately three months, with two full-time shifts of project monitoring and air sampling as part of the abatement process. The abatement consisted of over 15,000 linear feet of friable asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and over 200,000 square feet of non-friable ACMs.
