H2M’s Liz Uzzo Speaks to Newsday
H2M’s Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer Liz Uzzo, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, recently spoke to Newsday about the importance of retaining staff and techniques for reducing turnover.
According to an online survey by Resume Builder, a platform offering premium resumé templates and career guidance, approximately 28% of workers are somewhat or highly likely to quit their job by the end of the year. Some of the key motivations for people’s decision to leave their jobs were insufficient pay, a desire for better benefits, and unhealthy stress levels.
For many people, particularly young professionals, job hopping is an effective way to find positions with better pay, benefits, and/or working conditions. This is why, Liz argues, it is vital for companies to invest in retaining employees through programs such as professional development training and mentorships. Initiatives like H2M’s in-house Learning + Development Academy—which offers programs in areas such as career mentorship, public speaking, developing client relationships and more—are incredibly valuable ways to make employees feel connected to their organization.
“Retention is always top of mind,” Uzzo told Newsday. “Making sure we’re making the right hires and making sure we’re developing our people, so they have opportunities.”
