Eyes on the Ball
Sean Callahan, Senior Project Engineer, is a professional engineer with more than 16 years of diversified civil engineering and land development experience. At H2M, Sean lends his expertise to a variety of responsibilities, including civil engineering design for the reconstruction of roadways, storm drainage systems, stream restorations, and site development projects for various clients including local villages, schools, and private utility companies. Sean also has an expertise in the design of stormwater management analysis and design, grading and drainage, erosion control, permitting, utility layout, and the implementation of sustainable engineering practices.
Mr. Callahan is one of the go-to experts in H2M’s Civil Department. He was involved in the flooding remediation to Clarkstown Lake Nanuet Drive which involved improvements to the drainage swale and replacement of existing culvert, as well as drainage improvements to Clarkstown Denver Drainage. One of the complexities of this project was to maintain the flow of water in the stream while replacing the pipe, which Mr. Callahan and his team certainly completed. Mr. Callahan also worked on drainage improvements for Patchogue’s River Avenue, including the installation of approximately 4,750 linear feet of porous concrete gutter.
Prior to H2M, Mr. Callahan served as a project manager for land development projects in the commercial, health care and education sectors, and as a lead project engineer with a design emphasis on the implementation of “green” engineering practices, grading and drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, permitting, and utility layout. Mr. Callahan was one of the key engineers responsible for developing the site plans and permitting for improvements to the Geisinger Health System’s Wyoming Valley Campus in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Improvements included the construction of two storage buildings, a 200-space parking lot, renovations to the main and emergency entrances, new campus-wide stormwater collection, conveyance and treatment systems, upgrades to the existing stormwater detention systems, a stormwater bypass swale to help alleviate downstream flooding, and extensive utility coordination.
Aside from his field work accomplishments Mr. Callahan is known to have one of the best personalities at H2M and is always finding humor, coming up with random Civil Engineering “facts of the day” for his colleagues. Mr. Callahan is also quite the family man, happily married to his wife Jody for 12 years with whom he has four children, three boys and one girl between five and 10 years of age. Mr. Callahan said “It’s tough to keep up with them, literally, because they are all pretty fast, all of them are on the local youth track and field team.” Mr. Callahan and his family enjoy exploring local and state parks as well as beaches around Long Island. One of their favorite places to go on their free time is the Riverhead Aquarium.
Mr. Callahan is also in charge of the H2M Football (Soccer) Club (Established in Spring 2015) which had a great past season. The club really brings the office together, and Mr. Callahan covers the team throughout the season with his witty weekly game updates that he e-mails to the team and his close colleagues. Mr. Callahan also coordinated the purchase of an end of the year parting gift for every member of the team. Mr. Callahan is the type of man to go above and beyond in his work, and at home with his friends and family.
Sean Callahan is a civil engineering expert, an athlete, a family man, and a humorous co-worker. He is a man who wears many hats in the civil engineering department, and is an expert at all that he does. Sean has had his eye on the ball throughout the game of life, building him to be the expert he is today inside and outside the office walls.
