National Nuclear Security Administration Recognizes Y-12 With Excellence Award

H2M is excited to announce that the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration has awarded the Y-12 National Security Complex Fire Department an Excellence Award in recognition of the teamwork, agility in facing unprecedented challenges, and sustained commitment to safety, quality, and performance excellence demonstrated throughout the duration of the project.

Led by BKV Group with H2M providing the architectural and firematic design, this new fire station will fulfill the specialized response needs for this unique government facility. The 25,000-square-foot, L-shaped station has four drive-through bays on the west side for the most frequently used apparatus and five bays on the north side for more specialized preventative vehicles and equipment. The station also includes areas for bunks, living quarters, active and classroom training, and administrative operations. One unique feature is the state-of-the-art alerting system, which combines visual and audible alerting to broadcast emergency calls from anywhere on the complex directly into the station. Overall, the first responders now have a greatly improved work-life environment.
