H2M architects + engineers’ Senior Water Resources Engineer, Paul J. Ponturo, P.E. has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the American Water Works Association New York Section (NYSAWWA).
Paul has been a member of the National AWWA organization and the New York section since 1978.
The NYSAWWA represents New York State public drinking water purveyors who supply potable water to over 15 million New York residents. The NYSAWWA is the leading professional organization dedicated to providing safe drinking water to protect public health and to provide safe and sufficient water for all. Through collective leadership, NYSAWWA advances education, science, management, technology, and government policies.
The chair of the NYSAWWA Board provides strategic direction that supports the vision of the Section. The Chair acts as spokesperson of the Section. Several previous H2M personnel have Chaired the Section, such as Dennis Kelleher and Paul Granger.
Paul was inducted to the position of the Chair at the NYSAWWA Annual Conference that was held virtually today, July 7, 2020.
At H2M, Paul focuses on a number of regulatory and compliance issues relating to public water supplies, emerging contaminant review, and monitoring program design. He is also currently involved in H2M’s efforts in expanding education and outreach opportunities to water supply professional operational and planning staff.
Prior to H2M, Paul was the Chief of the Office of water Resources of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services Division of Environmental Quality where he served as a Public Health Engineer from 1972 – 2008. As Chief, he supervised a staff of 34 engineers, hydrogeologists, sanitarians, well drillers, and office support personnel.
Paul has also been an instructor for New York State approved Grade IIB Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification Course.
