social responsibility and community involvement

social responsibility and community involvement

Our commitment to the communities we serve extends far beyond the job site. Here is a snapshot of the many charitable, educational, and community-based causes and organizations we support as a firm.

ACE Mentor Program – H2M is a local sponsor of ACE, which stands for Architecture, Construction and Engineering. The ACE Mentor Program mentors high school students and inspires them to pursue careers in design and construction. It’s the construction industry’s fastest-growing high school mentoring program, reaching over 8,000 students annually. This school year, H2M has an ACE Mentor class of 28 high school juniors and seniors who visit our office bi-monthly to work with our architects and engineers. Throughout the year, the students break up into teams and work on a design project for presentation to their families and school faculty in May. The ACE Program has awarded over $14Million in scholarships to students since it's inception.

Internships – In an effort to promote careers in engineering and architecture, H2M utilizes a staff of interns every summer to assist the company and grow our industry. This year we are welcoming interns in architectural design, engineering, and environmental services from colleges including:

NYIT
SUNY Farmingdale
Notre Dame
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
University of Delaware
Manhattan College
Clarkson University
Syracuse University
Stony Brook University
Penn State University

Scholarships – H2M has awarded annual scholarships to six high school seniors who are going on to study engineering or architecture in college. The H2M architects + engineers STEM Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and character to a graduating senior who is planning to attend college and enroll in a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) degree program, which includes but not limited to science, environmental engineering, architecture, planning, landscape architecture, and land surveying.  For more information or to apply please click here: H2M STEM Scholarship 2017.pdf

Employee Contributions –  Each year, H2M employees make donations to a number of Long Island organizations.  Contributions are collected during employee events like the Holiday Party and Thanksgiving Feast through silent auctions.  H2M employees also provide several hundred pounds of food to Long Island Cares and the interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) through drop boxes at our offices.

Work Programs
- H2M backs up our charitable giving with boots on the ground for groups including Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk and the INN.  H2M provides work days to both groups, taking time to rebuild damaged homes or to prepare meals at an The Mary Brennan soup Kitchen

Canstruction
  - H2M has been a longtime supporter of Canstruction Long Island.  Canstruction holds annual design and build competitions to construct fantastic, oversized structures made entirely out of canned food.  After the structures are built and the winners are declared, the creations go on view to the general public as gigantic art exhibits.  At the close of the competition, all of the Canstruction are dismantled, and the food used in the structures is donated to local food banks for distribution to community emergency feeding programs.  Canstruction is the most unique food charity in the world!  In our 10 years of involvement, H2M has donated approximately 35,000 pounds of food to Long Island Cares.  Our track record of winning sculptures has awarded us wins in all categories, including: Most Cans Used, Structural Ingenuity, Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, Jurors’ Favorite and People's Choice Awards.
