All About the Community

Melville, NY (January 30, 2017) – Erik DeLine is a Senior Project Planner for H2M architects + engineers. Erik is always thinking about ways to help out the communities he works in and how the quality of life for its residents can be improved. Erik enjoys getting out into the community, working locally, and seeing how H2M’s hard work positively effects a town and their people on an everyday basis.

Erik enjoys working on comprehensive master plans, attending board meetings, and working with local communities. Erik was attracted to H2M by the people, culture, work, passion for planning, and the opportunity to be a part of the team. Some of Erik’s favorite projects that he has worked on at H2M are the Hudson County Master Plan and the Little Falls Township Transit Village Application.

“Engaging and strengthening Hudson County was one of my most memorable projects from the past year because it required us to take holistic approach to planning in Hudson County while factoring in resiliency, which is not as typical in master plans. Recent severe weather events required us to take a different look at planning as it directly affects residents, businesses, and communities in Hudson County. I definitely enjoyed addressing those challenges and coming up with creative recommendations with our team to get the project done.” said Erik.

“Little Falls Township Transit Village Application was another memorable project because it provided us with the opportunity to put something together that helps market the Little Falls community for development and re-development around their transit facility. Not every community in New Jersey is able to call themselves a Transit Village, so it provides good recognition for the township.” added Erik.

The biggest accomplishment Erik has made at H2M so far is helping the firm with successful project pursuits. In 2017, the Planning Department will be kicking off the East Orange Master Plan. A challenging yet exciting project for a medium sized city in New Jersey, East Orange is an up and coming city. H2M was also recently retained by the Town of Boonton as their Town Planner. Erik is looking forward to working with this small but progressive town that is hoping to generate new vibrancy for its downtown community.

In addition, H2M will be part of a North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority study to develop concept plans for freight railroad projects in two northern New Jersey municipalities – Dover and Phillipsburg. H2M is leading public engagement and local government coordination efforts as part of its responsibilities. Erik had extensive background and knowledge of these projects from his time in the public sector, which contributed to the team’s win.

Outside of H2M Erik is heavily involved in his own town of Pompton Lakes, NJ. He serves on its Town Council and volunteers for the town to improve the quality of life in his community. Erik enjoys working to improve Pompton Lakes’ parks, trails and open space. Erik is also a family man, he is married to his wife Debra and they have two young daughters, Sarina and Daniella. In his free time, Erik enjoys hiking and visiting new cities. Erik likes to see how the different cities plan their communities, and he enjoys finding different interesting characteristics about each community. Erik also served in the New York Army National Guard for 8 years and was deployed in Iraq for a year.

Erik has experience providing transportation planning and analysis in the public and private sectors. He has worked on the circulation and mobility elements of municipal master plans, freight access and mobility studies for local municipalities and federal agencies, airport improvement projects, and other types of planning studies for H2M.

Erik is a man who wears many hats and is truly an expert in all that he does for the planning department in our Parsippany office.
