Melville, NY (January 16, 2017) - James A. Schaefer, Jr. is Deputy Energy Market Leader for H2M architects + engineers. James (Jim) supports the firm’s utility project accounts with a focus on business development and market strategy. Jim is passionate about building H2M’s energy market sector to become the go-to firm to help Governor Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) plan to rebuild, strengthen, and modernize New York’s energy system, and over the next several years Reform New York’s Energy Vision.
Rich Humann, President and CEO of H2M architects + engineers, met with Jim to discuss a need to build upon H2M’s Energy Market team. Jim is striving to help H2M establish a new service line: transmission and distribution utility services, while helping to grow the energy market sector team to expand on the company’s existing services to utility companies. Jim knew it was the perfect opportunity to capitalize on H2M’s strong Long Island presence, and grow the energy market sector for the firm. Jim is now working on strengthening H2M’s long lasting relationships with PSEG Long Island, National Grid and Con Edison.
Some of Jim’s favorite projects he has worked on so far at H2M include a FEMA hazard mitigation program addressing local electric distribution storm hardening needs, completing several State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) permitting projects, and an erosion study for an electrical substation on Fire Island which involved coastal engineering and ecological surveying services.
Jim said, “The project task assignments for these projects afforded staff with career growth opportunities from both a professional and technical perspective, and the new tasks performed by staff included wetland surveys, beach profiling and sensitive habitat assessments. These project tasks were very important for the future growth of our energy market technical staff.”
“Helping H2M establish transmission and distribution service offerings to utility clients, while continuing to build a bigger team, and mentoring staff to execute new project tasks is my greatest accomplishment I have made at H2M so far.” added Jim.
Jim’s favorite part of working at H2M is being an “H2Mer” and he enjoys the firm’s collaborative way of doing business, by placing the client first, and having the opportunity to work with different market leaders across the entire company.
Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) is Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s comprehensive energy strategy for New York, and H2M is retooling its support services to support this vision. REV’s mission is to Build A Clean, Resilient, And More Affordable Energy System for All New Yorkers. REV helps consumers make more informed energy choices, develop new energy products and services, and protect the environment while creating new jobs and economic opportunity throughout the State. Learning from the hardships of Superstorm Sandy, REV sets utility expectations to storm harden our infrastructure to be more storm resilient and reliable the months and years ahead.
Jim is a man that wears many hats at H2M, and is a key player in the firm’s energy market vision. Jim is succeeding in his efforts to build H2M’s energy market support staff, and the firm is looking forward to seeing future growth in this market sector for years to come.
